Woven Roots is a non-profit dedicated to cultivating vibrant and inclusive spaces for intergenerational Jewish experiences centered in connection, wonder, joy, and possibility.

We weave together a tapestry of journeys to create community that honors intersectional identities, reflects local culture, and embraces individual uniqueness. We embody a dynamic and adapztable attitude towards what it means to live Jewishly. 

Together, we celebrate and evolve in relationship through Jewish heritage, practice, and meaning within an interconnected world.

  • “I’ve been fortunate enough to have participated in several of the events created by Woven Roots over the past year. At each of them, regardless of size or location or intended purpose, I have walked away feeling somehow both lighter and more grounded, in equal measure.

    As a relatively new member of this community and a relatively new mom, there are often countless moments in my life when my innate curiosity and equally innate anxiety create more uncertainty than I’d like. Perhaps the biggest gift Woven Roots has offered me - and inevitably the entire community it serves - is the chance to exist in a space where asking questions and admitting uncertainty is not only accepted, but encouraged. I think it goes without saying that our current times don’t exactly leave much space for this kind of community. Now more than ever, this depth of nuanced, thoughtful conversation holds more value than can accurately be expressed in words. It has continually impressed me that such a space exists so effectively and intentionally here in New Orleans.

    Every detail of each event has been so well-planned and intentional, every conversation has been so enlightening (and fun!), and every new friendship formed has been so rewarding. I am deeply, permanently grateful to be a part of this community. I had no idea how much I needed it before it appeared, and I am quite sure that so many others feel the same way I do. I hope Woven Roots exists for as long there is a need for inclusive, welcoming, connective spaces — which is to say, indefinitely. “

  • “New Orleans is one of the best places you can live as a transplant, in my opinion. The city’s culture and people are the most welcoming. So welcoming that I don’t often find myself homesick. On those rare occasions that I do feel homesick, it’s usually around the holidays. Last Passover was my first one away from home. I was so relieved to have a place to go to for seder the second night of Passover. It was filled with both familiar and new traditions and I immediately felt at home. Woven Roots also hosted a Shabbat dinner recently and I brought a friend who just moved to New Orleans. We spent so much time chatting to the people next to us that I didn’t have time to eat nearly as much hummus as I would have. It was a reminder that Shabbat can be celebrated in many ways “
