High Holidays Primer (Educational)
The clash between the Jewish calendar and the school calendar is never more disruptive than in the fall when a Bacchus-length parade of holidays marches through just when you were settling back into regularly scheduled childcare. Or, if school isn’t closed, what happens to the holiday? What even are all these holidays? How long are you, or a child, expected to sit, stand, sit again in a Synagogue? How many times can a person say they’re sorry? How come the fun holidays barely get any attention? Did you know there are fun ones? And why do they come back to back like that?
Come get oriented to the annual barrage that is the High Holidays (High Holy Days?) at the Woven Roots High Holidays Primer. Toby David, a Jewish educator and father of young children, will lay out the basics of this whole holiday season: Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, and Simchat Torah. He’ll explain each holiday’s meaning, rituals, traditions, and relevant texts, as well as how the holidays fit together. Toby will offer ideas, activities and resources for making the holidays fun and meaningful for kids, and ideally, for you.
The High Holidays are more than just apples, honey, and guilt.
Come eat, drink, talk, and learn all about it.
